Dangal- The much awaited biographical story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who is a father of Geetha Phogat, a first Indian woman to win gold medal in 2010 common wealth and Babita Phogat, a silver medal winner. Dangal is an Aamir Khan’s self- production movie and he has made every effort to nail it down to perfection.
The story revolves around Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan) who is a former champion wrestler and his dream to win a gold medal for India in wrestling. He himself is unable to do so and promises that he shall have a son who will deliver his dream. But his dream of having a son was abolished after Shobha (Sakshi Tanwar), his wife delivers four daughters. Phogat did not believe that women can wrestle and did not pay much heed to training the girls till one day Geeta and Babita came home after beating two boys. Mahavir then realises his dream can still come true and thus the story of how Phogat trained his daughters to become professional wrestlers.
In a country where women are constantly degraded and let down by male chauvinists, Dangal delivers a strong message of women empowerment. It shows how Phogat placed his belief on his two daughters and trains them to be stronger than men and ultimately lead them to winning the commonwealth games. The movie unearths the journey of a father who trains his two daughters to become world renowned wrestlers.
The trailer looks promising and we hope it delivers as depicted. The characters played by Fatima Sana Shaikh (Geeta Phogat) and Sanya Malhotra (Babita Kumari) are strong and are carried superbly well. Sakshi Tanwar portrays as wife of Phogat to perfection just as actor himself.
The scheduled release date for the movie is set to December 23,2016 and we are eagerly waiting for its release. It sure looks like it is worth the wait.
